Mark “Mick” McKenzie

August 15th – Today marks the 15-year anniversary of when the firefighting community lost one of its finest members. Mark Edward “Mick” McKenzie, a well-respected fireman, succumbed to an illness at the age of 45. Known fondly as “Mick” by his peers, he was considered one of the most versed firemen to ever grace the corridors of the Engine House, or as Mick liked to call it, the “Truck House” on Landover Road. Many were witness to, and beneficiaries of, his exceptional teaching skills, particularly relating to Truck Company operations. There is no doubt that his impact significantly shaped the current state of Tower Ladder 33. As we, the officers and members of the Kentland Volunteer Fire Department, Inc., reflect on Mick’s life and achievements, we implore everyone to keep his loved ones in their thoughts and prayers.
