Columbia Park Rd / Martin Luther King Jr. Hwy

At 0916 Rescue Engine 33 was alerted to respond for a rescue local at the intersection of Columbia Park Rd / Martin Luther King Jr. Hwy. While enroute another supplement advised the vehicle hit a pole and was on fire with the driver still inside. At this point Rescue Engine 33 advised communications to upgrade the assignment. Upon arrival Rescue Engine 33 found one car into a pole, on fire. The driver of the vehicle attempted to self extricate but was still trapped inside. The crew quickly deployed the bumper line and hydraulic tools simultaneously. While the lineman began extinguishing the vehicle, other members rapidly popped the drivers door with the spreaders and freed the occupants feet with the pedal cutters. The occupant was transported to The Burn Center at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in critical condition.
