8100 block of Finch Court

Early this morning at approximately 0400, Engine 332, Tower 33, and Chief 33B responded to a house fire at Box 08-07, in the 8100 block of Finch Court in the East Nalley neighborhood.
During early operations, as the Engine and Tower began opening up on the 2nd floor, a collapse of the roof and its support structure occured, trapping several of our members under burning materials. Our members acted swiftly and decisively, sounding a “Mayday” message to Command, and freeing themselves and each other. Tower 33’s Canman was removed by the rest of the crew from under burning structural members, dragged out to the rear deck, and removed via ground ladders.
Our members were transported to MedStar, and one remains admitted. Updates on his injuries will stay internal to the Department, but he is in good spirits and classified as “serious” but not life threatening.
We are proud of these men and their tactics, and are thankful that their training kicked in when they needed it most. Our thoughts are also with the homeowners as they deal with this tragedy. Thank you to the rest of the Fire Department family for their hard work and professional conduct on this fire and in its wake. Thank you all for your support and understanding.
