Another Working Fire for Engine and Truck 33

The snow had just started to fall in the greater Landover area when PSC sounded three beeps for the bedroom on fire, in the 400 block of Capitol Heights Boulevard, on box 05-01. Engine 331 as the 3rd due engine, and Reserve Truck 33 as the search company, hit the road, battling through the slick, slush filled streets. First arriving units went on the scene of a 2-story single family dwelling, with smoke showing. Volunteer Duty Chief (Squad 33 Captain Ricky Riley) updated the conditions to fire showing from the second floor A/B corner. Truck 33 dropped the crew off to conduct their search of the structure while the driver parked the truck a street away out of the way of other responding units. Truck 33 split the crew into two different teams and performed a primary search of all floors of the house. After driving around the block to utilize the next closest hydrant, Engine 331 deployed the 400’ 1 ½ hose in bundle load fashion, as the crew was stretching the pre-connect line to side C, the wagon driver flaked out the remainder of the hose by driving 100’ to the hydrant. Crews made quick work of the fire and Engine and Truck 33 were back en route to the fire house at 0038 hours.
