Commercial Building Fire in the 600 blk of Watkins Park Dr.

Engine Co 33 and Rescue Engine 33 operated on a commercial building fire early this afternoon behind the First Baptist Church of Glenarden in the 600 blk of Watkins Park Dr. Initial reports came in that the building was under construction and some workers were possibly trapped. Engine Co 46 arrived and confirmed the building was under construction and construction and roofing materials were on fire on the roof. They also reported that the private hydrants on scene were not in service. Engine 33 arrived and located a water supply near by as the initial engines worked to set up water supply out to a hydrant on the main street coming in. The engine crew stretched the 400′ attack line up a ladder and began with extinguishment. The Rescue Engine , dispatched as the search company , arrived and quickly gained access to the structure and started searching for trapped workers. The Rescue crew quickly searched the lower levels and made their way to the roof reporting negative search results and that all workers had safely exited the building. Crews worked for several hours extinguishing the fire and removing the burned materials from the roof. Kentland operated for approximately four hours before returning to service.
