Off-Duty DCFD Firefighter Helps Save Partial Amputation Victim, Rescue Engine Extricates

At 22:36 hours on Tuesday, May 9, Rescue Engine 33 with five Volunteers was alerted to Martin Luther King Jr. Highway and Lottsford Vista Road for a vehicle accident with one overturned and one reported trapped.
While responding, PSC advised that off duty personnel were on scene confirming one trapped with possible amputation. The Rescue Engine arrived and was met by a DCFD Fireman who had applied a tourniquet to the victims arm, due to partial amputation just below the elbow, medics on scene remarked his actions probably saved the woman’s life.
The Rescue Engine crew stabilized the vehicle then performed a roof flap to extricate the victim, who was flown to a specialty hand center in Baltimore via MSP Trooper 2. Total extrication time was 8 minutes.
