UNIT CITATION- HOUSE FIRE

Wednesday, April 3, 1996  On Tuesday, April 3, 1996 units from the Kentland Volunteer Fire Department responded to a dwelling fire at 1410 Seapines court in Lake Arbor. Units were advised that a child may be trapped inside. When units arrived they found heavy smoke billowing from the top floor windows and roof area. The crews from Engine 331, Engine 332 and Tower 33 ascended to the top floor to begin searching for the child and ventilating the smoke. The quickness and professionalism of the entire crew made it possible to effectively rescue the child from the burning house. These outstanding actions by the entire crew are in the Highest tradition of the fire service which reflects the professionalism of the “volunteers”

UNIT CITATION- APARTMENT FIRE

Thursday, October 15, 1992  On October 15, 1992, you responded to a reported fire at 1127 Capital View Drive. On arrival, fire was located on the third floor with a report of two children trapped. Captain Saar and Firefighter Redden made numerous attempts to make the rescue under extreme heat and smoke conditions, receiving several burns. Despite their best efforts they were held back by the severe volume of fire. In spite of the valiant attempt made by the entire crew, both children succumbed to the fire. Your unselfish and sacrificing attempts to make the rescue should be noted. You are hereby commended.

UNIT CITATION- FIRE ENGINE WRECK

Friday, April 10, 1992  On April 10, 1992, Engine 331, Engine 332, Tower 33 and Chief 33 were responding to a call at 3309 Grayvine Lane in the Glenn Dale area. In route to the same call, Engine 481 overturned at the intersection of Route 450 and Forbes Boulevard. At the request of Chief 28, personnel from Company 33 rerouted their response to the accident scene to render assistance. On arrival, Engine 481 was found to have struck several telephone poles and trees and come to a rest inverted in a drainage culvert with 2 personnel trapped inside. The below mentioned personnel immediately worked to stabilize the apparatus and to free the trapped firefighters, placing themselves at personal risk. Your actions were preformed in the highest traditions of the fire service and resulted in the rescue of the two trapped firefighters. You are hereby commended.

UNIT CITATION- HOUSE FIRE

Monday, March 16, 1992  On March 16, 1992, Engine 332 arrived on the scene of a working fire at 2400 Muncy Circle in Palmer Park. Observing fire coming from a front window, Firefighters Smith and Savage entered the structure prior to the attack line to conduct a search. In attempting to rescue an elderly female from the room of fire involvement, Firefighter Smith received burns to his face and hands. Firefighters Billingsley and Savage advanced a hose line in a further effort to extinguish the fire and remove the victim. Although the victim succumbed to the fire, your unselfish and sacrificing attempts to make the rescue should be noted. You are hereby commended.
