EARLY MORNING AFA TURNS INTO FIRST DUE FIRE: 3300 PENNSY DRIVE

Sunday, September 2, 2012 At 0730 hours units from Kentland 33 were dispatched for an automatic fire alarm at 3300 Pennsy Drive, Eight O'Clock Coffee.  Engine and Tower 33 responded with 12 Volunteers.  The Company arrived on the scene with smoke showing from the "Charlie" side and requested that box alarm 33-25 be filled out.  Engine Co. 33 laid a supply line in from the Bravo side and took a position in the rear where they found a large trash compactor on fire with extension inside the building.  Tower 33 laddered the structure and opened up access for the Engine crew.  Both crews found multiple material hoppers on fire inside with extension into the Warehouse doors.  Crews from PE30 stretched a back up line and assisted with extinguishing the trash compactor while Truck 9, Quint 38 and Engine 6 began ventilation efforts throughout the large warehouse.  With all fire knocked down and overhaul complete, units returned to service.  Special Thanks to Eight O'Clock Coffee for the delicious coffee.
