Friday, August 22, 2008 13:43 - As the 56 Kentland Volunteers, Engine 331 (New), Engine 331 (Old), Engine 332, Rescue Engine 33, Tower Ladder 33, Mini-Pumper 33 and The Chiefs were attending funeral services for the late Mark “Mick” McKenzie, the fill-in crew from the Bladensburg Volunteers were alerted for a reported smoke coming from the home at 502 68th Street. Engine 92 acting as Engine 331 responded with 5 volunteers on the run as the third due Engine Company. First arriving units from Company 8 (Seat Pleasant) arrived on the scene of a single family home with smoke showing. Engine 331 arrived on the scene and advanced a handline to back up Engine 81. Crews found a room off in the rear of the home and knocked it down. The assignment was later scaled back to the units from Seat Pleasant. Thanks to the Bladensburg Volunteers for their support in this time of mourning.
